For a few years, I have been sending out fabric scraps that I
collect from various sewing factories in my area. I then make
these scraps available to quilters and crafters all over the
country via the internet for just costs plus shipping. There
is no profit in this offer. The recipients then use the scraps
mostly for community projects like the ones listed on my web site
at the address below. In the later part of '96, some of these women got together and sent
blocks to the lady who organized what I call the Magic Mike Internet
Quilt and she sewed it all together and sent it to me in appreciation
of my efforts. I really didn't feel I deserved this great quilt, but
greatly cherish it and proudly display it. Around this same time, one
of the ladies from the newsgroup wrote a letter to Dear Abby explaining
how we only hear about the bad things about the net, and how there is
so much good resulting from the net. She mentioned me and my fabric
recycling offer and how many peole benefit from it, and was published
on 1-12-97 nationwide. In August of '97, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. When I announced
to the rec.crafts.textiles.quilting newsgroup that I might be
unavailable for a while because of this tumor, I literally received
100's of email from people as far away as New Zealand, Sweden, Germany,
as well as Alaska, and all over the U.S. All of these people extended
get well wishes as well as prayers for a speedy recovery.Much of what I stated above, can be found at my web site listed below,
and a lot of the well wishes can be found by doing a search on Deja News
for Magic Mike and Rec.crafts.textiles.quilting as many were also posted
to the newsgroup. This newsgroup is such a great bunch of people and devote so much of
thier time to helping others and various community projects, I would
like them get the recognition they so justly deserve. If you visit the web site listed below, you will see a very small
sampling of what these people have done just with my scraps. They do so
much other work that I don't even know about that someone should
highlight their contributions. Here's hoping you continue to provide such a great web site.
Magic Mike
P.S. I am currently in the process of contacting some companies to get
them to donate their fabric scraps to this great cause and any publicity
you can provide would also be greatly appreciated.Magic Mike ( Yes, the same one mentioned in the Dear Abby letter
published 1-12-97 about some of the good guys on the Internet.

This quilt is symbolic of the positive effects of the internet. A local internet user, recently received this quilt as a get well gift after undergoing surgery. Her chatroom friends from all over the world each created a patch and sent them all to one woman who quilted them together.
