In 1970 Denver was chosen as a host of Olympic Games. Two years later the city resigned, as it recognized, that the event is too expensive to hold, and competition was moved to Innsbruck.

Denver – the capital of the American state Colorado. When it was established in the middle of the 19th century, it was the centre of mining of silver and gold. Today, still being the important industry centre, it is also developing its other faces. Many cultural events takes place there, it has lovely parks, local breweries are opening. Above all, it is perfect starting point to get to know phenomenal Rocky Mountains.
The centre of the city is neat and clean. It is worth to start its sightseeing from visiting the Capitol building, surrounded by beautiful parks. From Monday to Friday, you can visit it for free. Going further, you will see modern, glass buildings, but as overwhelming as in other cities of USA, since they are not so high.
The city isn’t lacking places, where life starts only at night, and they are located mainly in two areas. First of them is elegant Larimer Square, with Victorian buildings, that is also the shopping heartland of the city. The second one is Colfax Avenue, where party in clubs seems to be never-ending. In which of them will you spend the evening?
In Denver, apart from opulent city life, you will also find many restaurants. Highly popular is, for instance, Root Down at 1600 West 33rd Avenue, in which you can try dishes inspired by many regions of the world. For sushi definitely go to Sushi Den at 1487 S Pearl Street. If you are a fan of Italian cuisine, you should go to Marco's Coal Fired at 2129 Larimer Street, to try delicious pizza.
Denver is a modern city, but it still is connotated with Wild West. You can find there many shops, where you can equip yourself in real cowboy’s costume. Western vibe can be felt the best, when visiting Rocky Mountains. Even at the peak period of the summertime, you can find there some calm spots, set a tent by the lake or admire fantastic views from summits.
