Divinópolis is the city located in the middle part of the Brazilian state Minas Gerais. It was founded in 1912, and is in distance of 120 kilometres from Belo Horizonte. It is considered a fashion capital, as well as the most safe city in Minas Gerais.
The city’s area is divided into six parts. The most populated is the southern-east part, this is where the airport is also situated. University part is in the northern-east region, this is where the most parties takes place, and streets are lively till late night hours.
In Divinópolis take place many cultural events. One of the most popular is rodeo DivinaExpo, the biggest in the whole region. That party has been held every year on the verge of May and June for 50 years! You can see there competition in bull riding, driving shows, as well as concerts of popular artists. Divinópolis, as for the Brazilian city, celebrates very uproariously the anniversary of its foundation, that also falls in the beginning of June. Traditionally there is a parade on that day, in which many locals eagerly participate.
In the city there are a few spots worth visiting to grab something to eat. Good seafood you can try in Peixe Dourado at Rua Olinda 411. Delicious dishes of Brazilian cuisine you can taste in Cheia de Graca Arte & Sabor by Rua Pratapolis 160. Other spot worth visiting, if you want to taste something Brazilian, but also Japanese, is a bar Maria Baguette przy Rua Mato Grosso 884. What is interesting, in Brazil, restaurants mixing in their menu dishes of those two countries are nothing extraordinary – many citizens have Japanese roots.
Around 20 kilometres from the city, there is situated Rose Lake – Lago das Roseiras, which attracts in summer many beachgoers. It is worth to go there for a trip, to rest from the city’s tumult. You can obviously take car, but if you don’t have it on spot, don’t worry, from Divinópolis goes bus and the journey lasts less than an hour.
