Dalaman is a small town situated in a district of the same name, within the Muğla Province in the south-west of Turkey. It became well-known in the late 1980s when international airlines started operating at the local airport. Currently, it handles over 4 million passengers per year with flights from and to over 100 destinations in the world. Even though most of the travelers head to larger resorts right after the arrival, it’s worth spending also a day touring Dalaman.
Turkish Aegean Riviera where Dalaman sits is exceptionally picturesque. It’s the result of its location between the sea and the mountains. The town itself is very enjoyable and typical for the Mediterranean region. Take a walk along its coast – wonderful marine scenery that Riviera is famous for is definitely worth admiring. The shoreline is rugged and hides lots of lagoons and coves which makes it even more beautiful.
Visit one of the beaches in the area, such as vast and sandy Sarigerme. It’s sited just a 15-minute car ride away from the town. After a day of sunbathing, you can have an evening meal in one of the nearby eateries.
The region around Dalaman is a dream place for water sports fans. In the offer you may find, e.g., cruises to surrounding islands and swimming or underwater diving. If you have never tried scuba diving but always wanted to learn it, here is your chance. Just look around for the dive centers giving lessons. You can also take a paragliding flight and admire the area from the sky!
Where to go when you get hungry? One of the really nice restaurants serving Turkish cuisine is Akkaya Garden on Akkaya Mevki. The unique atmosphere of the place will make your meal even tastier. Shef Brasserie at 3/B Ege Mah. Alp Sokak is another highly recommended eatery. The menu is based on Mediterranean food.
