Folclórico de Parintins, taking place in June. It is the second most popular event in Brazil, only surpassed by the carnival in Rio de Janeiro. The part lasts three days and encourage to join with colourful parades and shows of extravagant, regional dance.
The city’s surroundings is composed by forests, the river and islands – to this day locals eagerly use river boats to move around. Along the region stretches out a mountain range, that together with the lake Valéria makes a lovely spot, visited by crowds of tourists. In summer, the river banks attracts both locals and visitors. There are perfect conditions to swim, or just watch boats and vessels cruising on the river.
The central point of the city is square named the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, on which the local cathedral stands. By a port, there is a flea market, on which you can get everything – carnival masks, jewellery, as well as products by local artists. Many objects are sold directly from pretty, colourful boats.
Parintins is a tiny town, so you won’t find there a huge number of restaurants, still it is worth to go to dinner or supper outside. Alongside the riverbanks and a few crossroads further, there are a few spots specializing in seafood and meat dishes. Tasty food can be found in, among others, Restaurante da Vania at Rua Rio Branco 669 or in Kuiu by Praca Cristo Redentor 6.
