What to see in San Cristobal de la Laguna?

The town of St. Christopher is the second biggest one on Tenerife and a quintessence of the Canarian style. Established in the 15th century, was the first residence of Spanish governors. To this day it has the most beautiful old town on the whole archipelago, as well as one of the oldest Spanish universities.

Once being the most important centre of the island, La Laguna today doesn’t attract as many tourists as the cities situated on the shore, but it is worth visiting. In the air you can feel old, insular vibe. You can still see town houses from the 16th century. By the narrows streets, named mainly with names of local professors and founders of La Laguna, many lovely, richly decorated buildings are situated.

It is commonly known, that for fresh fruits and vegetables it is best to go to the local market, especially when you are in a Spanish town! Go then to square Plaza de Adelantado, by which you can find the town market, or actually the bazaar – Mercedo, where apart from food you can get fresh flowers. On that square you can admire also, or most of all, the town hall with preserved to this day unique frescos.

Do you fancy shopping in traditional style, where you enter shops straight from streets, not from alleys of a huge shopping mall? Make sure to go to an avenue, where only pedestrians are allowed – Obispo Rey Redondo. You can find at it many boutiques with clothes, accessories and shoes, perfume stores, as well as cafes, perfect for situation in which you would want to rest by coffee during shopping.

After sightseeing or shopping, you will surely get hungry. The great spot is La Tasca de Cristian at Calle Maqrques de Celada 17, you can try there splendid dishes of the Mediterranean cuisine. For great Spanish snacks (and not only!), step by La Bruma Tapas Bar at Calle Alberto Einstein 36. When you fancy some burgers, go absolutely to LA Bourmet at Calle San Austin 42.
