The province Tekirdağ is famous for production of Rakı, a type of vodka made from grapes or figs. The secret of flavour manufactured there Yeni Rakı and Tekirdağ Rakısı is reportedly water from artesian well in Çorlu.
Çorlu is situated on the peninsula Doğu Trakya. It borders with Greece (from the west), and Bulgaria (from the north), and closeness of those countries and migration of people made this region a truly Balkan one.
Going to Çorlu, take into the account that it often rains there, also in summer. But in such hot climate, showers can be considered more as refreshing than disturbing.
Çorlu, a city in the northern east part of Turkey, in the province Tekirdağ. Situated in the European part of the country, close to the Sea of Marmara shore, and within the length of a bit more than 100 kilometres from the Black Sea, the similar distance you have to go to get to Istanbul. The city has started its development in the 90’s and since that time it gets attention of more and more tourists.
Through Çorlu and its surroundings it is best to move on foot, by bike and in mini buses (in Turkish called dolmuş). Those buses runs almost nonstop and are very cheap, and you can use them to get to different parts of the town, as well as further – for instance to seaside shores, if you fancy spending the day on the beach. Such trips won’t be long, since from the shore of the Sea of Marmara the city is in distance of less than 20 kilometres.
Characteristic for that area elements of cuisine are vodka Rakı and famous meat balls Köfte, prepared with addition of vegetables and spices. They have many variants, can be cooked, fried or baked. In the province Tekirdağ they are prepared with ginger, garlic, chili and cumin – spicy, but very tasty.
If you like to visit a bar, to try local snack or have a beer, locals recommend to go beyond the centre. Prices are lower there, and the vibe is genuinely Turkish. When you decide for such trip, we recommend taking someone that lives nearby, to help you find the best place. Most of bars are opened till 1 or 2 am.
