What’s worth seeing in Aarhus?

Aarhus, a second biggest city in Denmark, located on Jutland. What is interesting, its name has been written that way only since 1st January 2011, previously its correct name was Århus. In 2017 it was chosen the European Capital of Culture, presenting itself as a mix of youthful energy and wind of history and encouraging for visits.

Aarhus is one of the oldest places in Denmark, its history goes back to the 8th century, thanks to which its buildings, colourful, beautiful and low, allows to travel back to those times. It is situated on the shore, offering wonderful, relaxing, seaside climate.

If you want to get to know better the history of Aarhus, make sure to visit urban antique building museum, that is one of the best attractions not only of this city, but of whole Denmark. Den Gamle By will make you feel like you travel back in time to, depending on the district, the 19th century or to 20’s or 70’s of the last century. Architecture, knocks of carriages and smell of dishes from those periods make for fantastic impression. Kids to 18 years old enter free of chargé, prices of tickets for adults varies depending on day of the week and season.

In the city live thousands of students, making it vibrant, no matter what day of the week is. You will find there many parks and other green areas, especially beautiful is the Botanical Garden by Peter Holms Vej. Additionally, seen everywhere bikes add to the charm of Aarhus. Locals, as for Scandinavians, are very eager of this mean of transportation, we also recommend it for you, since it is perfect to sightsee this tiny city.

Where it is worth to go to grab something to eat? One of the most popular restaurants, specializing in Mediterranean cuisine and seafood, are Sevags Graekeren at Skaering Strandvej 3 and Mefisto at Volden 28. Delicious pizza you can eat in Cafe Piccolina at Skolegyde 8 and if you are a fan of steaks, make sure to note the address Aaboulevarden 23, where you can find a restaurant KoD.
