Due to the fact that Ankona is the port city, in local restaurants you can find a wide choice of fish dishes. One of them is Brodetto – spicy soup prepared from 13 species of fishes, with tomatoes and garlic.
Every year, at the end of summer in Ankona there is taking place an international festival jointly with a celebration of the sea. It is an outstanding occasion to get to know unusual cultural offer of the region, as well as with works of artists from all over the world.
The city’s name originates from a Greek word “ankon” meaning elbow (due to the shape of seashore). This was the name Greek sailors used when they arrived there in the 4th century B.C.
