Bardufoss lies in the valley Målselvdalen, through which runs a river of the same name. It looks especially picturesque in summer. Take a walk on the river bank, admiring its rapid flow.
You can eat till yours fill at an eatery by Kapellveien 9, where they serve pizza, that no Italian would recognize. Pie is thick and filling, and one of the most popular ingredients is... cabbage.
Being in Norway and not to try skiing? Out of the question. To the east from Bardufoss there is situated a slope Myrefjell, where you can rent all the necessary equipment. An instructor helps beginners.
A ride with dog’s rig and admiring Northern Lights are on your dreams’ list? Then you are in the right place. Bardufoss is an urban area in the valley Målselvdalen, composed of three villages – Andselv, Andslimoen and Heggelia.
In the neighbourhood of Bardufoss operate a few companies that organizes trips with dog’s rig. And all kinds of them – from an hour-long trip, recommended for people, who just want to see how it is and those travelling with kids, to whole-day trips together with sightseeing and a few-days excursion, during which participants eat and sleep like in the old days. If you get there at the right time, you can see the Northern Lights. Routes go via national parks and their trajectory depends on weather. It is important to be in a good shape. Do you prefer to get to know the area while walking? There are also organized foot trips to the heart of national parks. The most interesting time is in June and July, when the sun shines 24 hours per day. Reindeers are eager to walk at that time, thanks to which you can observe their life. Shorter trips are great idea for families with kids. Two weeks-long routes, during which you must walk around 30 kilometres are recommended only for fit people.
Bardufoss isn’t a paradise for those liking to sun themselves. In winter temperature does not rich above minus 10 Celsius degrees, and half of that time temperature are below minus 20 Celsius degrees. Half metre of snow is normal thing there during winter. How does summer look like? Mostly temperature is around 10 Celsius degrees, but happens also period of real heat, when temperatures reach – watch out for that – 22 Celsius degrees!
In Tromso you can visit an amazing zoo, in which animals coming from this part of Norway live. In Polaria Park, where polar climate was re-enacted – snowy rocks and pools – live polar bears, elks and seals. With a kid make sure to visit Tromso Mini Zoo, where you can get closer and pet some of the animals.
