Bastia
Bastia, the main commercial and industrial city of Corsica, is situated on the Mediterranean Sea in the department of Upper Corsica. Founded in the 14th century, it is an important recreational center with beaches and bathing areas. The city is renowned for its 16th-century medieval fortress, the 17th-century Ste Marie Cathedral, as well as historic churches and the old harbor. Bastia boasts a well-developed metal and tobacco industry. The Mediterranean climate offers mild winters and warm summers, with spring and autumn being the best times to visit.
