New Orleans was founded in 1718, as La Nouvelle-Orléans by French settlers under the supervision of Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. After short period of Spanish reign on this area, and then again French one, the city was sold to the United States, becoming one of the most important American centres at the Mexican Gulf. French roots can be seen in, among others, restored buildings in historical French district, French Quarter, as well as influences made by the traditional European cuisine on New Orleans cuisine.

What you have to see there? Surely cemeteries, which – thanks to unusual tombs of irregular shapes and sizes – are one of the main attractions of the city. Symbols of New Orleans are also bridges, like Crescent City Connection, as well as Huey P. Long Bridge from 1935. It is worth also to take a ride with historical trams and visit local zoo, in which lives alligator albinos, as well as Aquarium, where you can admire species of water animals living in the Mexican Gulf. Lovers of history won’t regret a visit in the museum commemorated to the II World War, which is The National World War II Museum.

How tastes New Orleans? Local cuisine is mix of two cuisine cultures. The most known dishes of poor cuisine is cajun, like rice with beans and jambalaya, which is dish from rice, pepper, celery, tomatoes and tabasco, seasoned with broth and served with sea food, sausage or pork. From dishes of Creolean cuisine popular are, for instance, gumbo, which is rice with sea food and okra, as well as yakamein, which is beef broth with noodles, egg and chives, and etouffee, shrimps served with rice in roux sauce. Where to eat? Typical dishes you can get in Upperline Restaurant, Brennan's Restaurant or in Cajun Seafood.
