Novokuznetsk – a city located in the Asian part of Russia, in Kemerovo Oblast, in the southern part of Eastern Siberia, on both sides of the river Tom. It is one of the biggest metallurgical and coal extracting centres in Russia. Its feast is celebrated on first Sunday of July. What is the best time to choose to visit this place? Since Novokuznetsk is located in the Siberian part of the country – for most of the year temperature there is not quite high. Founded in the 17th century, Novokuznetsk is one of the oldest cities of Siberia. You can see there many buildings that remember old times. The monument of history and one of the most recognizable symbol of the city is a fortress Kuznieck, located in a district of the city of the same name. The stone fortress was built in the beginning of the 19th century and served as protection from Chinese raid. Today it is premises of a museum, and picture of fortress is used by many organizations, including local newspaper Kuznetsky Rabochiy.
One of the most important events in the city are International Fairs of Technology for Mining, that take place every year at the beginning of June. The city becomes at this time a business centre, when tens thousands guests arrived, representing almost 600 companies of mining industry and 30 countries. It is very possible that thanks to this Fairs you will be in town, but using this opportunity it is worth to take a walk, just to see the most popular places and have a dinner in local restaurant.
Where to eat when you get hungry? A popular restaurant is Paulaner Brauhaus at N.S. Yermakova Avenue 1A, you can taste there dishes of German cuisine, based mostly on meat. Another place worth visiting is Tandyr at Ermakova Avenue 1, where you can try dishes characteristic for Russian and Uzbekistan cuisine.
