Pucallpa is located in the northern-eastern part of Peru, is the capital of the department Ucayali and the province Coronel Portillo. It is situated at the left bank of the river Ucayali.
To Pucallpa you can get via various ways – air, land and even water one! The closest airport is
Aeropuerto Internacional Capitán FAP David Abensur Rengifo. It is located in the area of the city and handles internal connections to other parts of Peru, mainly to its capital. To the city leads also a land road, through which you can get from Lima in around 18 hours. As we mentioned, the third way to reach Pucallpa is by choosing water mean of transportation, via which you can get from Iquitos and Leticia.
The popular way of moving around the city are mototaxis. These are three-wheeled vehicles that can take mostly only one passenger. Around the city there are riding also Collectivos, private cars, which owners take volunteers for a small fare. Beware though! They can be very crowded as drivers take as much people as they can, sometimes even more. If you prefer moving on foot, we have some good news – the old town is so small, you can sightsee it whole during a walk.
If you travel with kid, make sure to visit an urban zoo – a natural park. In the park children can feed animals and see them quite closely. Don’t forget to take a look at its historical part.
Around five kilometres from the city there is lake Yarinacocha. It is perfect idea for a one-day trip. You can relax or eat dinner in this lovely surroundings. What restaurant can you visit there? Travelers recommend Anaconda by Malecon Puerto Callao, specializing in Peruvian cuisine.
