    Pago Pago is a port city and the administrative capital of American Samoa since 1899. Located on the southeastern coast of Tutuila Island, it is surrounded by densely forested mountains and a picturesque bay. Its metropolitan area includes Fagatogo and Utulei, among others. In the past, it housed a U.S. naval base, and currently, it operates a port exporting canned tuna. Pago Pago International Airport opened in 1964.
