If you are in Bariloche during summer, make sure to see a volcano which has almost 3000 metres above the sea level of altitude. It is still active, but during summer you can get close to its crater.
In the whole Patagonia climate is very favourable. No wonder then that men were living there already 10 thousand years ago, whereas coming from Europe settlers eagerly were building there new towns.
How come there is architecture taken straight out of Alpines cities in Argentina? The first Europeans to settle there were Germans and Austrians, who were building houses according to known to them formats.
Citizens call it shortly – Bariloche. The city is bringing to mind Switzerland with its outstanding views for snowy peaks of the Andes reflecting in lakes. The centre of the Argentinian Bariloche is looking like a small, mountain town. The square is surrounded by houses from wood and stones as in some Alpine village.
Just 20 kilometres from Bariloche there is situated Cerro Catedral, the most important ski resort in South America. It is a true paradise for fans of skiing – the resort has 50 routes for both amateurs and professionals as well as 40 ski lifts, that a Swiss town wouldn’t be ashamed of. In this place there are operating skiing and snowboarding schools, so even those who never tried their hand on slope can have fun.
What connotations do mountain sports have to you? Of course warming hot chocolate or at least a bar of chocolate, eaten for reinforcement after effort. It is no different in Bariloche, called local capital of chocolate. It is not only imported there, but also produced. Visit a museum Havanna to find out for your own eyes how this process looks like. If you are not afraid of too much sweetness, take a walk along Calle Mitre. There almost at every door you will encounter pastry shop, chocolate shop, sweets packed as gifts for take away or place where you can get warming, chocolate drink.
When you get tired of sports and supply yourself with appropriate amount of chocolate, go for a long walk. You won’t run out of interesting places. Bariloche is surrounded by magnificent national parks. The most beautiful myrtle forests you will see in the National Park Los Arrayanes. In a typical Patagonian National Park Lanin, araucaria araucana is dominating. Do you prefer a lake and sunbathing on the beach? Go to the bank of Lacar, the lake of crystal clear water or Lago Pellegrini, where you can also sail.
