Altamira is a perfect place for people who don’t fancy cold weather. Average temperatures, depending on season of the year, are between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.
On the border of the state, close to the highway, there are a few picturesque waterfalls – two smaller ideal to play for kids and a few bigger, which are looking the best while admired from afar.
One of the oldest preserved buildings in the city is the cathedral of Sagrado Coração de Jesus. In the renovated building there are preserved original paintings on walls and ceiling.
On the bank of the river Xingu, that flows to the ocean, there is Altamira, a city founded in the year 1911. From the beginning the main source of profits for citizens there is trade, that is possible due to closeness of the river and agriculture, thanks to fertile soils owed also to the river.
Do you want to spend the evening as inhabitants of Altamira do? Go for do Praca da Independencia at Rua Coronel José Porfírio, where you can do whatever you desire. Popular is gym on open-air with lots of equipment. After the physical effort, rest in eatery, sipping local drinks. If you travel with kids, they won’t get bored there. The park has a huge playground with sways, ladders, merry-go-around and other fancy stuff. There is also skatepark, football and volleyball fields and pathways for runners. On a stage during weekend there are concerts taking place, whereas during week – dance or fitness classes.
Near the shore, at Rua Sete de Setembro, there is Recanto Cardoso, where you can rest in the bosom of nature – while fishing, canoeing on a lake or bathing under a small waterfall. There is a place for camping, but if you prefer you can rent a room. There is some tasty food in local eatery.
For a real degustation of Brazilian cuisine go to Dom Fernanses at Travessa Coronel Tancredo. Food is served there in popular in the whole country way – you just put on a plate whatever you fancy and pay according to weight. Thanks to that you can try as many local dishes as you wish and choose ones that you fancy the most. Once you know what you fancy again, visit Tinguela Bar E Restaurante at Avenida Via Oeste. We especially recommend meat prepared there with a great attention and fantastic, accompanying them colourful salads.
