What’s worth seeing in Cleveland?

Cleveland, located in Ohio, is buoyantly developing financial, scientific and cultural centre. It is famous, among others, for a centre of space research or world-class museums. It stands out with perfect, specific for that multicultural city, cuisine.

The city was founded in 1796 by geodesists from Connecticut Land Company. Thanks to the connection of a river Cuyahoga with a lake Erie, a trade started to blossom there, of, among others, coal and iron ore. Prosperity was lasting all the way until the 80s of the 20th century, when after the crisis a few industrial centres were closed and unemployment rate surged. Today, the city is focusing on culture, offering an access to great museums (for e.g. well-known The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), theatres, entertainment parks or the best in the country gold courses. The biggest aggregation of cultural attractions is in University Circle, situated in Downtown.

What is worth seeing there? Surely Public Square in the city’s centre at the mouth of the river Cuyahoga, that has remained unchanged since the foundation of the city. In that symbolical spot takes place state events and concerts of Cleveland Orchestra on the Independence Day on 4th of July. You can see there also characteristic skyscrapers like Key Tower, the highest building in Ohio and one of the highest in the country. Lovers of nature should go by the lake, that is the warmest and the shallowest of all the Grand Lakes in that regions, as well as to situated a few kilometres further from the centre, National Park Cuyahoga Valley.

What to eat in Cleveland? Regional cuisine is a mix of culinary traditions of native Americans, Amish and immigrants from Europe, especially its middle-eastern part. Among local titbits we can find dishes like Polish Boy, a mix of sausage, coleslaw salad, French fries and barbeque sauce. Popular are also dumplings, a bun richly filled with beef and mustard – a Croned Beed, as well as Chicken Paprikash, a meat stew with pepper. For dessert we recommend donuts with jam and cassata. Where to eat? We recommend especially Slyman's Deli, Townhall and Grumpy's Cafe.
