Around three kilometres from the city’s centre, in a town Trondenes, there is situated, coming from the middle ages, a rock church. It is the furthest located to the north middle-aged building in the world.
In the city’s neighbourhood there is the Centre of History of Trondenes. Exhibits, which you will see there, are dedicated to the region’s history, mainly times, when Vikings used to live there. Remember that it is closed on Saturdays!
In a dazzling port Hardstad, very often you can one of the oldest schooners in the world – the ship Anna Rogde. It was built in 1868 and still sails close to the shores!
Harstad is the town situated in Troms, one of nineteen countries, to which Norway is divided. It the second biggest town in its region, even though it has a bit more than twenty thousand inhabitants. Harstad is located in the northern east part of the island Hinnøya, alongside beautiful, long for forty-six kilometres fjord Vågsfjorden.
That tiny town in Norway is called the cultural capital of the north, as well as the most romantic place in the country. Pack comfortable shoes, warm clothes and set off to get to know that lovely place, in which nature fascinates on every step, and it does not lack events that present its history. Pay attention to architecture, that in harmonically way connects buildings remembering old times with modern buildings. In the last week of July go to the Festival of Northern Norway, at which artists from all over the country arrived.
The area favours trips on foot through mountains and forests, canoeing alongside the shore or cruises on stunning waters of the Norway Sea. Harstad, situated mainly on a big Island, as well as on the territory of a few smaller islands, it has gorgeous, sandy beaches, allowing for bath in delightful nature circumstances or calm fishing.
When after active leisure, you get hungry, go to one of the restaurants, which are many in Harstad. The immensely popular is Umami at Havnegat 23A. You can try there dishes of Scandinavian cuisine, served in sophisticated way. Other, recommended place, is De 4 Roser at Torvet 7a. There also a basis in the menu is Scandinavian cuisine. For great steak step by Big Horn Steakhouse, located at Strandgat 30. If you fancy something sweet, definitely step by Bakerinnen AS at Storgat 17, cinnamon buns are made on the spot and are worth to try.
