In the centre of Tepic, at Zacatecas Norte 284, there is located a museum dedicated to works of great poet and novelist – Amado Nervo, born in that city in the second half of the 19th century.
If you go to Tepic with your family or friends and you wonder, what to do in your free time, we recommend La Loma. It is a park at Calle Mojave, in which are organized, for instance, paintball games.
Around 50 kilometres from the city there is a lovely, port town – San Blas. Once it was witness of many battles, including that for independence of Mexico, today you will see there calm beaches and exotic birds.
Tepic is the biggest city in the western part of Mexico, in a state Nayarit. It is main urban centre in this famous for agriculture region. Sugar cane, tobacco and citrus fruits are mainly grown there. History of Tepic goes back to the 16th century, when it was founded.
Nature that surrounds the city is amazing! There are numerous lakes, impressive waterfalls and fantastic, natural landscapes. To the north from the city there is the highest waterfall in the state Nayarti, whose water flows over stone wall, making an incredible impression. On the horizon there is a volcano Sangangüey, that has its own crater lake. From Tepic there is only an hour drive to sandy beaches by the Pacific Ocean. What is worth to know about the city itself?
One of the most recognizable buildings in Tepic is the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception (Cathedral de la Purísima Concepción), with two symmetrical belfries. Other interesting element of architecture is premises of state government, situated by Avenida México Norte, on which you can see beautiful murals, whose author is Jose Luis Soto. Paintings were made at the end of the 90’s, and show history of Mexico.
Urban atmosphere is perfectly reflected in, among others, Plaza de Armas, build on ruins of the town dated back to the beginning of its history. It is one of the favourite places of both locals and tourists visiting Tepic. It has colourful fountains, in the evening it gets crowded, and on Wednesdays there is live music, be brave and join dancing people!
Where to go to eat something? A very popular and acclaimed place, not only in Tepic, but in the whole Mexico, is Emiliano Comida Y Vino at Calle Emiliano Zapata Oriente Ote 91. It is especially worth to go for breakfast there, you can have fresh juice and eat local fruits. Another recommended restaurant is El Marlin de Tepic, situated by Calzada del Panteon 45. In it you can get great seafood, including specialty – pescado zarandeado, a grilled fish.
