What to see in Charleston?

Charleston is the oldest and biggest city in South Carolina, located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The city was founded in 1670 in the honor of the ruler of England, Charles II, which is why it was originally called Charles Town. Nowadays, it is known mainly for its well-preserved architecture, cultural wealth and exceptionally friendly and helpful residents. It is a great example then when you visit the United States, you do not necessarily have to focus only on the biggest cities.

Every year, the city wins prizes awarded by the lifestyle and travel magazines, being the friendliest or the most worth-visiting city. You will understand why it is so, the first second you arrive here. Charleston has beautiful colorful buildings along the endless picturesque avenues with palm trees.

Maybe you enjoy visiting local restaurants at the beginning of your trip? You'll find a lot of them in Charleston, all with high-quality cooking. Among the most popular dining places, there are mainly those specializing in American cuisine. Halls Chophouse is worth visiting, you will find it at King Street 434, visit also Circa 1886 at Wentworth Street 149 or 167 Raw at E Bay Street 289.

We encourage you to plan your trip so that at least one morning would be perfect for a very early wake-up call and expedition to Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, to admire the sunrise from its perspective. This view is considered by the majority of people as the best one in the whole city, and the competition here is fierce. Remember to charge your phone or camera in advance, photos are phenomenal!

If you are visiting the city in the summer, you may be interested where to find some coolness and shadow. There are many nice beaches in the area. If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet place, we recommend you to go to the beach located on the Sullivan's Island. It's located fifteen kilometers away from Charleston, so there are not so many people here. If you prefer to sunbathe in the company of other people, choose more popular places, like Isle of Palms or Folly Beach.
