What’s worth seeing in Trieste?

The city of rich history, with beautiful architecture, interesting landscapes, and delicious coffee. In Trieste, a port is definitely reining. The city owes its greatness to it. From there to the depths of the city go symmetrically – even too much – planned streets; a leftover after times of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Today, the Italian Trieste attracts tourists longing for lazy leisure in the heart of the beautiful city.

The most beautiful monument in Trieste is the castle Miramare, built by the Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian Habsburg. Till today a huge garden by the castle is well preserved with plants from all over the world being grown there. It is a perfect spot for relaxing away from the sun in the shadow of trees and with birds’ signing. There is a lovely view from there to the sea – the castle is on the cape.

In Trieste itself, like in other port cities, there isn’t a traditional, sandy beach. It results from a simple cause – the port was built where the land was sharply entering the sea, so ships are provided with the deepest waters. But the fact that there is no sand there or a tiny gravel doesn’t mean that you can do sunbathing in Trieste. On spiaggia Barcola, a boulevard from concrete, in some places you will see big gatherings of people lying in the sun. They probably laid down towels close to ladders leading to the sea.

The city’s life takes place in the evenings on Molo Audace, nest to Piazza Unita d’Italia. Both citizens and tourists eagerly walk there, admiring docking ships and landscape of seaside part of the old town. Popular is also the area of nearby Piazza del Borsa. There are plenty of bars and restaurants with tables outside. If you are not very hungry, you can basically resign from ordering a dinner – in most eateries to drinks are served starters.
