Flights from Poland to Rome

Flights from Poland to Rome are among the most popular international routes offered from our domestic airports. Relatively short (approx. 2-2.5 hours) and low-priced travel will quickly transport you to the Eternal City – the capital of culture, ancient monuments, delicious Italian food, and year-round beautiful weather – picturesquely located on seven hills.

From which cities in Poland can you fly to Rome? Cheap direct flights to Rome can be taken from four Polish cities – Warsaw, Cracow, Katowice, and Wrocław. It is also possible to fly from other airports in Poland, e.g., from Gdańsk, Poznań, Bydgoszcz, Łódź, Rzeszów, and Lublin. However, these flights to Rome (Italy) are indirect, so you’ll need to change at one of the major European airports, e.g., in Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Paris, Copenhagen, Brussels, or Amsterdam.

Which airlines offer flights to Rome?

Regular direct flights from Poland to Rome are offered by Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Alitalia. Cheap flights to Rome are mainly provided by the first two carriers. However, also the Italian airline often has special deals on air tickets. Ryanair offers low-cost direct flights to Rome from Warsaw Modlin (WMI), Kraków – Balice Airport (KRK) and Wrocław (WRO) to Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA). Wizz Air operates to both airports, Rome Ciampino (CIA) and Rome Fiumicino (FCO)  from Katowice Pyrzowice (KTW) and Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW). Italian carrier Alitalia, which is a more expensive airline, provides flights from Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) to Rome Fiumicino (FCO). To get from Poland to the Eternal City you can also take a connecting flight offered by several companies, including Lufthansa, SAS, KLM, Austrian, Air France, and Swiss.

What airports are there in Rome?

The city of Rome is served by two airports – Rome Ciampino (CIA) and Leonardo da Vinci Airport, known as Rome Fiumicino (FCO). The former one used to be the major international airport of the capital of Italy. Today, this single-terminal airport serves mostly budget airlines. You can get there from Poland by Ryanair and Wizz Air, both offering cheap flights to Rome. The airport is located approximately 15 kilometers from the city center and it’s well-connected to it.

A little further from the center of Rome (approximately 30 kilometers) the Fiumicino Airport is located. It has as many as four terminals and is the most important airport in the country. You can get there directly from Poland with Alitalia or some other carriers offering connecting flights to Rome, such as Air France, Austrian, KLM, Lufthansa, SAS or Swiss.

How much does a flight to Rome cost?

Air tickets to Rome from Poland offered by low-cost airlines – Ryanair and Wizz Air – will cost an average of around PLN 300-400 (€ 70-90), round trip. However, when you book well in advance or look for special prices and last-minute flights (purchased just a few days before departure) you can find round-trip fares for as little as PLN 200 (€ 45). When you choose to fly with Alitalia, and you are only interested in direct flights, bear in mind that the air ticket to Rome and a return flight to Poland will cost approximately PLN 1000 (€ 230). The cheapest round-trip fares offered by the Italian carrier are between PLN 500-600 (€ 115-140). However, the ticket prices for flights to Rome are usually higher.

If you want to take a connecting flight, travel in high season or buy a ticket on the day of departure, the cost will increase. The final price of air tickets to Rome is determined also by other factors, including your seat, the amount of luggage you’re planning to take, additional travel insurance or extra service such as priority boarding.

When are the cheapest flights to Rome?

You can find the cheapest flights to Rome in late fall (at the end of October and in November) or in winter months (January and February). This time is normally the off-season in the capital of Italy, as the weather is worse in comparison to other months. Because airlines want to make profits also during the off-season, they offer fares to Rome at promotional prices. It’s worth considering this option because even in winter the weather in Rome is relatively nice and the temperature is much higher than in Poland. In low season, the most expensive fares on flights to Rome are around the Christmas, New Year and Easter periods.

How to fly to Rome for less?

To fly to Rome for less, you should know how the date of your trip affects the final price. Low-priced air tickets to Rome are available not only during the off-season. You can also search for last-minute flight deals offered by various airlines and be surprised to find an inexpensive flight to Rome even for July or August (when the Eternal City is usually flooded with tourists from all over the world). Tickets that are still available a few days before a scheduled departure will be put on sale at a discounted price.

If you are planning to visit Rome in a different time period, for example, during the spring, you should start looking for air tickets at least 3 months ahead. When booking a flight to the capital of Italy well in advance, you are likely to save money, sometimes even half the price. It is also important to know when to make a purchase of air tickets to Rome. Airlines would offer the lowest fares on flights to Rome on weekdays (specifically from Tuesday to Thursday) in the morning. Why? Because they tend to raise their fares on weekends (Friday to Sunday) and in the evening hours, as this is when most people have some spare time to look for tickets.
