What’s worth seeing in Zadar?

Zadar is the oldest, continuously inhabited town in Croatia. It is situated in the western part of the country, by the Adriatic Sea. It is the centre of Dalmatia, both in historic, as well as in cultural and political sense. Thanks to its rich history and beautiful region, in which it is located, it is one of the most popular cities in Croatia. That destination is often taken by sailors due to favour, gentle climate and marvellous views.

The city is referred to as small Rome, and sunsets, that can be admired there, are considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. The old part of Zadar is situated on a peninsula, and with a new one it is connected by a bridge over the Jazine bay. It was built based on rules similar to Roman ones – there are a few main streets, from which smaller one are spreading, forming characteristics rectangles. You will see there many beautiful, historic places, dated back to the Renaissance, the Middle Ages, or even the Ancient times. 

Nowadays, the old part of the city still remains its heart, it is where locals and tourists are meeting. It has many bars and restaurants. If you want to eat something in that area, surely you won’t be complaining for lack of choice. Step by, for instance, La Famiglia, which address is Knezova Shubica Bribirskih 9, and you can taste there dishes of Mediterranean cuisine, including fantastic seafood. Another spot, where it is worth to stop by, is Zadar Jadera, a restaurant specializing in traditional, regional cuisine, situated at Brne Krnarutica 4. A restaurant, where it is also worth to eat at is 2Ribara Restaurant at Blazha Jurjeva 1. It specializes in  Mediterranean cuisine, mainly its Croatian and Italian versions.
 
Zadar can boast of many local products. Among them are ovine cheese, produced on a nearby island Pag, or famous smoked ham pršut. Base for desserts are often there fresh or dried fruits. Extremely popular is liquor Maraschino, produced on base of juice from wild cherries. Make sure to try it and take it back home as souvenir!
