  • The city of music

Every year in June, Molde hosts the International Jazz Festival. It’s the biggest event of this type in Europe, and it attracts jazz lovers from all over the continent (and not only!).

  • Take a cruise

Every day, several cruise ships depart northbound and southbound from Molde. Tours are organized by Hurtigruten group. You can also take a ferry and head to the fjords; there’s no need to book tickets in advance.

Things to see in Molde

Molde is a Norwegian city located in the district of Romsdal within Møre og Romsdal county, on the northern shore of Romsdalsfjord. The climate is quite moderate here, with warm but not too hot summers and mild winters.

The main aspect making Molde so attractive to travelers is the fabulous nature. The mountains of this land of fjords are enjoyable regardless of the season! In winter you can ski while admiring the Northern Lights overhead; summer is the best time to go hiking through the greenery.

If your hunger for breathtaking sceneries hasn’t been satisfied yet, don’t worry – there’s still a lot ahead. One of the spots worth a visit is the Varden viewpoint (407 m.a.s.l.). From its top, you can enjoy the sight of the entire city and fjords. Feeling peckish? You’ll find here a restaurant, called Vardestua. Great food and magnificent landscape – what more could you want?

The city makes a perfect starting point for a tour along the two most beautiful routes in Norway – Trollstigen and Atlanterhavsveien. The name of the former one translates as “Trolls’ Footpath.” While hiking through spectacular terrains and 11 hairpin turns, you’ll see the road signs warning of trolls. The second of the routes crosses seven bridges connecting several small islands along the Hustadvika coastline. The longest of the bridges, Storseisundet, makes a characteristic sharp turn over the islands below. The road combines the beauty of nature with the craft of human hands.

Where to eat in Molde? For breakfast and lunch, go to Fole Godt at 61 Storgata. You may like, e.g., sweet courses, mouth-watering sandwiches, and soups. They also serve an excellent coffee. When it’s time for the evening meal, head to Molde Fjordstuer at 6 Julsundvegen. The restaurant specializes in sophisticated variations of Scandinavian cuisine. Not enough choices? Then try the Glass at 1 Torget where you’ll find a big selection of European food, including delicious pasta, pizza, and meat.
