If you arrive at Lefkada from continental Greece, the first city you will see after getting through the underwater tunnel will be Lefkas, the capital of the island. The first thing that oozes tourists, is the age of buildings in the Old town. On average they have at least 200 years, but those there have it more than half of the century. all due to earthquakes that destroyed the majority of the original buildings. New houses were very well adjusted to the vibe of the Island – through narrow, cobbled streets one can walk for hours.
On the island, there are five typically touristic towns, all of them quite calm ones. Located next to each other Nikiana and Ligia are sleepy hollows with gravel beach. Similarly Agios Nikitas on the north of the island. In Nidri, there is a discotheque in the peak seasons, and bars are longer open. Vasiliki will please lovers of water sports – southern wind allows there for real madness. Required equipment can be rented at the beach.
What’s worth to eat on Lefkada? In the seaside villages, surely seafood and fishes – no one prepared like locals. Almost in every tavern, you will get delicious, home-made dishes. If you are in Vasilikis, visit a restaurant T’Aloni. Choose a table on a terrace with an amazing view of the island. Order lamb, and for dessert, we recommend soup of melon with yogurt and cookies.
