What’s interesting to see in Târgu Mureș?

A city located in central part of Rumunia, in Transylvania, is a capital of Mureș County. As a result of past events, you will find there elements of two cultures: Romanian and Hungarian. The city’s name means a market in Mureș - both in its Romanian and Hungarian version. The University of Petru Maior, the Medical University and the University of Fine Arts are located there.

In the city – especially in its centre and on the Square of Roses – you will find plenty of examples of architecture of baroque, neo-classicism and secession. Among them it is worth to pay attention to the church of St. John the Baptiste, the Palace of Culture or the Town Hall. In Târgu Mureș you can also feel the medieval vibe – especially in the northern part of the city. Another historic building worth recommending to visit is a medieval fort from the 15th century, rebuilt two centuries later. Up to this day, there are preserved a few of its towers and most of connecting them walls. Take a look at a monument, which Târgu Mureș is famous for, and which indicates old connections between Romania and the Roman Empire – the monument of the Capitoline Wolf.

In the city there are three railway stations – the North, the Central and the South one. They handle domestic and international trains. From a local bus station every day you can go to bigger cities in Romania – for example Bucharest, Constanța or Cluj-Napoca. Near the city – 14 kilometres to the south-west – there is located Aeroportul Transilvania Târgu Mureș. It is the second most used airport in Transylvania, it handles flights with Wizz Air airlines.

We all know how important part of travelling and sightseeing is food. While in Târgu Mureș, if you want to try eastern European cuisine or Romanian cuisine, go for instance to Laci Csarda at Strada Morii 27 or to PRIVO at Strada Doja Gheorghe 27. If you are admirer of Italian cuisine, and no matter the place you are in, you always choose to eat in Italian restaurants, go to Trattoria Bella Italia at Strada Poligrafiei 3.
