Orlando – nicknamed “The City Beautiful” by Americans – is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Florida. All because of a great number of amazing amusement parks, including the world’s biggest Disneyland.

Orlando was established as a city over 130 years ago but became a tourist attraction only in the second half of the 20th century. It is thanks to the accumulation of theme parks, popping up like mushrooms in a small area. Every year they are visited by 60 million people!

The symbol of the city is the famous fountain in the middle of the lake occupying the central part of the scenic Lake Eola Park. It’s located in the oldest quarter of the city – originating in the 19th century – called Lake Eola Heights. The brick-lined Church Street is the most distinctive in the district; you can find here the best bars and restaurants right next to historic buildings.

Back in the 1970s, 34 kilometers from the city center, the Walt Disney World was built. The mecca for the fans of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Pluto is famous for the iconic Cinderella Castle towering over the park. You can also have a great time with your family in the recently-opened Disney’s Animal Kingdom, or in the Disney MGM Studios where you’ll discover the secrets of the production of animated cartoons and feature films being made here. Another Disney theme park, Epcot, is dedicated to technological innovations.

Cinema fans should be excited about visiting Universal Orlando Resort where they’ll be transported to the world of “Harry Potter”, “Shrek”, “Jaws”, “Jurassic Park”, “E.T.”, and many other blockbusters. Don’t forget to spend some time in the SeaWorld Orlando, offering dolphin, killer whale, walrus, and seal shows; you might also like other water theme parks, e.g., Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach.

San Francisco is a city situated on 40 hills, and it probably doesn’t need any introduction. From the east it is surrounded by a gulf of the same name, from the west – by the Pacific Ocean. To say it is the city of many faces would not be enough.

The city is urbanized, you will see there many examples of fantastic architecture, but it also has to offer many green areas – parks, squares, that make for 20% of its area. Do you want to admire the city from a higher perspective? Citizens are divided as to which view is better – the one from the peak of Coit Tower (address is 1 Telegraph Hill Blvd) or the one you can admire from summits of the hills Twin Peaks. Choice is up to you, but maybe it is best to see them both? It won’t be a waste of time, for sure.

Definitely go to see famous Painted Ladies. These are houses built in Victorian style. The name referred to these lovely buildings – so often caught on postcards from San Francisco – was first used by writers
Elizabeth Pomada and Michael Larsen in 1978. They are making the more impression as they are in contraception with high buildings seen in the background. Painted Ladies are located by Alamo park, at corner of Steinar and Hayes streets.

Where to eat? In this multinational city you will find restaurants serving dishes of probably all cuisines of the world. It is difficult to choose a couple places among so many options, as in San Francisco the rate of eateries per citizen is the highest in the whole USA. It is certainly worth though to go to 309 Clement Street at Burma Superstar, where outstanding, Asian dishes are served, also in vegetarian version. For Italian dinner and seafood go to Seven Hills at 1550 Hyde Street. For a feast in Greek style visit Kokkari Estiatorio at 200 Jackson Street. For breakfast or lunch locals recommend going to Sweet Maple at 2101 Sutter Street.

The biggest city in Minnesota state located by the river Mississippi and in the area of crystal clear lakes. Together with Saint Paul since 1872 they make up the Twin Cities. What is worth to see in that centre of art. And business in the northern West part of the United States?

MSP which stands for Minneapolis-Saint Paul, counts more than three millions citizens. Its name, meaning “the water city” (minne – local name for water, polis – Greek for city), is connected with beautiful location by the shores of Mississippi and among 22 lakes. It is worth to see, best from the board of boat and ferry, Chain of Lakes which is composed of ponds like Cedar, Isles, Harriet. In summertime in an amphitheatre The Lake Harriet Bandshell by the Harriet lake takes place concerts of, among others, Minnesota Orchestra. Between the lakes Calhoun and Harriet runs historic trolley bus handled by Minnesota Streetcar Museum.

What’s worth seeing in The Twin Cities? Surely bridges St. Anthony Falls and Stone Arch Bridge, as well as historical district of Riverfront. In Downton skyscrapers grab attention (for instance High for 185 metres building of Foshat Tower from 1929). In the evenings you can go to the areas of Warehouse, Loring Park or Elliot Park and also ruins of mill the river’s bank, where is the basin of musical clubs and bars. Must see is Minneapolis Institute of Art and created in the 20s of the 20th century Walker Art Center – a museum of modern art with pieces of artists like Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore or Alberto Giacometti.

What to eat in the capital of Minnesota? In the regional cuisine dominate dishes of European roots, for instance Scandinavian lutefisk (dry cod dipped in leach) and lefse (pancakes), German stews and potato dishes, or polish dumplings. In bars it is worth to ask for Juicy Lucy (other spelling Jucy Lucy), which is cheeseburger with steak filled with cheese. Typical dish is also hot dish from potatoes, cream and cheese with various additions and tots – French fries from batatas in coating. Where to eat? The choice is vast, but good opinions have, among others, Tilt Pinball Bar, Dan Kelly's Bar and Grill and Town Hall Tap.

A city founded in the second half of the 20th century on desert areas, close to the river Salt. The capital of Arizona state. Before white men appeared there, the neighbourhood of Phoenix for nearly 2 thousand years was inhabited by Indians Hohokam, who perfectly had dealt with harsh climate. They had developed their own irrigation system of fields, that allowed them to cultivate plants. The end of civilization Hohokam is dated around the year 1500, where droughts had become unendurable. Another Indian tribe in the region of today’s Phoenix was Pima, that was growing bean, corn and pumpkins. The tribe didn’t survive invasions of Apache that were lasting for many years.

Modern city was erected based on old irrigation systems. The name had been changed for a few times before finally in the middle of the 19th century some lord proposed the name Phoenix, symbolising the rebirth of the city on cinders of old civilisations. The city was blossoming, in entered the 20th century with its own office with telegraph, sixteen saloons, four ballrooms and two banks.

If you are only just planning a trip to Phoenix, choose February. This is when the Indian Festival of Hoop Dance is taking place. What is that? At first glance it looks like competition in dancing to the rhythm of drums with hula-hoop, but it is made by autochthonic Americans dressed in traditional, folk clothes. What’s interesting, dancers don’t twist hula hoop on their hips, but nimbly get themselves tangled in more and more small hoops to later get out of them. Each show is a spectacular one, telling a different story.

Through decades in Phoenix, thanks to closeness of the border with Mexico, Mexican cuisine was dominating. In recent years, people from other states, as well as Asia, have arrived at the city, which influenced a change in local tastes. Still you can eat there delicious dishes, but the offer has broaden. Perfect dishes, which are mix of Mexican and Chinese cuisine, are served in Chino Bandido at 15414 North 19th Avenue. Whereas, typical American, juicy steaks you will eat in Little Miss Bbq at 4301 E University Dr.

The capital of Illinois state is not a typical tourist place. It is worth to spend in Chicago at least a few moments, as you can find there not only breath taking skyscrapers in business district, but also a beautiful lake, interesting museums and the best in the country hot dogs.

In Chicago it is very often windy, due to its location by the shore of the enormous lake Michigan. Typical for the city weather is not a problem in Downtown – the centre is closed in with high skyscrapers. You can see there both historic buildings from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century (for instance Reliance Building, Wrigley Building), as well as modern skyscrapers that are symbols of the city (for e.g. Trump’s Tower, Willis Tower). The district is also referred to as Loop, since around it runs railways. Its main part is Mag Mile – Magnificent Mile – the exclusive part of Michigan Avenue with shining in sun buildings, the best restaurants and shops.

The city is famous for its rich cultural offer – it is worth to go Art Institute of Chicago with vast collection of pieces of impressionists. The Field Museum, in which you can see, among others, the skeleton of T-rex, and to a famous Chicago Theatre (old Balaban and Katz Chicago Theatre), whose beginning go back to years of American prohibition.  A must see is also Millennium Park, where is situated the symbol of the city Cloud Gate (known also as the Bean). This mirror statue in the shape of a bean is the most photographed spot in the city. Nearby there is a multi-media installation Crown Fountain – on huge columns there are displayed photos of faces of citizens of the city, and from their mouths flows…water.

What is worth to eat there? For sure Chicago-styled hot dogs in small bun with lots of additions. The best are in Portillo’s and in bars Gene & Jude’s and Jim’s Original (ask for Maxwell Street Polish – hot dog with sausage). The American classic is also pizza on thick pie (deep dish pizza) with lots of cheese and tomato sauce (for e.g. in Lou Malnati’s), as well as cheeseburger (for instance in Small Cheval). For a dessert try a cheesecake at Eli’s Cheesecake Bakery Café.
