  • A very long day

When in Beira, you don’t have to worry that you don’t make the most of the day. Visit the city from December to March, the sun rises here at 4:30, and sets at about 7 p.m.

  • Don’t forget your visa

Polish citizens, as the citizens of many other countries, need to have a visa when coming to Mozambique. You can buy it on the border, but we recommend to buy it in advance.

  • The first settled place

At the end of the fifteenth century, Portuguese came to Mozambique and created their colony here. The first settlements can be found in the area of today’s Beira.

What to see in Beira?

Beira is a city located in the eastern part of Mozambique,  by the Púngoè river. Its population is over five hundred thousand people, which makes it the third largest city in the country in terms of population.  It is located on the coast of the Mozambique Canal.

The most important attraction of this place is the surrounding nature – wonderful lagoons, beaches, turquoise ocean and unusual coral reefs. What is difficult to capture in a movie or a photo – the atmosphere of a large, tropical city – is also a very crucial advantage of Beira. It is so nice and pleasant here, that you have to remember to book your hotel in advance. You may have a problem finding it on the spot, especially if you would like to stay here for a few days.

When in Beira, trying regional and national dishes is a must. Mozambique cuisine is rich in flavours and aromas. Among the things that you really must try, we should mention xima, a type of corn flour pudding, served with aromatic sauces and – optionally – with meat, fish or vegetables. The seafood is mouth-watering here, we should mention shrimps, squid, and fish, which can be bought directly from the fishermen, often at the very reasonable prices. Try also the cashews – they cost less than in other parts of the world and taste a lot better.

Public transport in Mozambique, and of course, also the one in Beira is quite good. The country is very big, so travelling to distant regions by train or bus may take you quite a long time. Don't hesitate to do that, because Mozambique – often called second Portugal – has a lot to offer. When the decision is made, choose buses, as they are the most punctual. Most often they leave early in the morning, so you may save a few hours, which you will be able to spend in a better way of when you reach the destination.
