The Netherlands, officially known as the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is located in Western Europe and the Caribbean. The country consists of a European mainland and the autonomous countries of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten. One of the most densely populated nations in the world, about a quarter of its territory lies below sea level. Amsterdam, the capital, is celebrated for its picturesque canals and world-class museums, while The Hague hosts several international courts. The temperate climate—with mild winters and warm summers—makes it an appealing destination year-round.
