Regardless of the chosen travel class, Blue Air passengers could take onboard one hand luggage, free of charge. Purses and bags for cameras/laptops had to be packed in the hand luggage. The hand luggage could not exceed 10 kg in weight and 55 x 40 x 20 cm in size.

Passengers could have up to 4 pieces of checked-in luggage, each piece not exceeding 32 kg in weight and 100 x 80 x 30 cm in size. The allowed weight depended on the chosen booking class (20 kg for the Classic travel class and 32 kg for the Premium travel class). .

Travel classes

Blue Air offered 3 travel classes: Light, Classic and Premium, all of them providing free of charge check-in.

Light class was guaranteed for lowest fares and had one hand luggage included in the price.

Classic was dedicated to people, who traveled with an additional small checked-in luggage (20 kg) and wanted to choose their seat. Passengers also had a 50% discount for a change of date or route change fee.

The Premium class offered passengers a larger checked-in luggage (32 kg), and they weren't charged for booking changes, could choose a comfort seat, as well as (on most routes) receive free meals.

Online Check-in

Free online check-in would open 30 days before departure and was allowed no later than 12 hours before the scheduled flight. Online check-in was possible on almost every route covered by Blue Air. Exceptions were made for flights from, among others, Lisbon, Palma de Mallorca and Tel Aviv. The full list is available on the carrier’s official webpage.

The Blue Air fleet consisted of 30 narrow-body passenger planes Boeing 737, series 737-300, 737-400, 737-500, 737-700 and 737-800. The characteristic white-blue aircraft had between 120 and 189 seats.

In 2017, the company announced the order for twelve Boeing 737 MAX 8, which entered the fleet starting with Q2, 2019.

Headquarters

The main base of the airline was in Bucharest-Otopeni (Henri Coandă International Airport). It is the biggest airport in Romania, serving domestic and international flights.

Around the area of the airport, there are numerous shops, cafes, Internet spots, as well as a chapel.

The distance between the airport and Bucharest city centre is 16.5 km. Tourists can cover that route by train, bus (final stop is Gara de Nord), taxi or rented car.

Worth mentioning is that Blue Air had operational bases in other cities as well, such as Bacău, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Iași (Romania), Alghero, Turin (Italy), Larnaca (Cyprus) and Liverpool (the UK). Each of these bases created connections between the most important cities in Europe.

Refreshments

Blue Air offered its passengers sweets, snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as hot and cold dishes. The carrier’s offer depended on the route. On some of them, passengers received free snacks and drinks. Hot meals were available on longer routes, as well as on flights to/from Bucharest or Sibiu, in which case passengers had to book the desired meal at least 12 hours before the scheduled departure time.

The gastronomic offer was diversified, so everyone could find something to enjoy. Passengers could choose from: Romanian / English breakfast, vegetarian menu and turkey / beef meals for lunch and dinner. Meals were available on most routes.

Additional services

When booking the Blue Air flight ticket, passengers also had the possibility to purchase bus transfers, which were available for the following route: from Constanta or Brasov to Bucharest-Otopeni airport.

Passengers flying via domestic routes in Romania could take one piece of checked-in luggage of 20 kg, free of charge, and would receive a free snack onboard.
