Things lost or left in the hotel The hotel is obliged to store found items for one year from the moment of informing the owner or for two years if the owner cannot be identified. Information on the storage length should be included in the hotel regulations or in the hotel guide. What to do when you lose something? If you lose or leave something in the hotel, this information should be immediately reported to the hotel reception. If the lost item is found during the guest's stay in the hotel, the hotel room service is obliged to give it back to the owner. After leaving the hotel, guests should immediately inform the hotel reception when they realize they have left something. The hotel service will probably suggest sending it to the given address if the lost item can be found. When informing about the lost item, it is necessary to describe the appearance, size, shape, and other valuable information as precisely as possible in order to identify the item. After finding the item, the hotel reception should contact the owner by phone and inform him/her about this fact. The guest should indicate the address to which his/her item should be sent back to.

AI (All Inclusive) The most popular type of meal, especially for those who would like to spend holidays on the beach near the hotel. It includes full-board (three up to six meals and the snack), as well as unlimited access to non-alcoholic drinks and alcohols of local production. UAI (Ultra All Inclusive) It is an all-inclusive option plus a wider choice of alcoholic drinks, mainly international. Also, depending on the hotel, it may include additional attractions – i.e. massages, spas, saunas etc. OV It doesn’t include any meals in the hotel. It’s chosen by the active tourists, who spend most of their time outside the hotel. BB (Bed and Breakfast) There is a breakfast included in the price of the hotel. HB (Half Board) In addition to sleeping, the price also includes breakfast and dinner. FB (Full Board) Breakfasts, lunches and dinners included in the price. It's recommended for those who plan trips lasting not more than three hours but wouldn’t like to visit restaurants. SC (Self Catering) Self-catering. The meals aren’t included in the price, but the guests have access to the kitchen or kitchenette, where they can prepare the meals on their own. It’s the best option if you want to save a little or you have a restrictive diet. PP Meals served according to the holiday program. Usually, it relates to the trips organised during leisure time. ZPR Offers of this type include the catering in the form described in the details of the tourist event program or in the hotel description that can be found in the conditions of the tourist event.

All hotels or similar establishments usually require guests to check-in, which involves providing or confirming guests’ personal information. Check-in procedures may vary from one establishment to another, especially for apartments or guest houses but in general: Guests are expected to provide the booking confirmation as well as identification documents, such as a passport or personal ID, or, in some cases a driver’s license, which the hotel may copy and retain for its records, and also to sign the registration form. Usually, only one guest per room is necessary in order to register. Some establishments also require from guests during the standard check-in procedure a credit card as a guarantee. They may even ask for a deposit to cover potential costs such as room service or the use of the mini bar for the duration of the stay. We strongly advise you to check the check-in procedures, depending on the type of establishment you have booked but especially if you’re booking an apartment, guest house, etc. Hotels: Check-in times vary but this can range from 12PM until about 4PM depending on the establishments’ rules and regulations. Early and late check-ins can be arranged through the hotel as long as the guests provide all the necessary details to the hotel in advance and make the proper arrangements. Some hotels can charge an additional fee but some won’t accept early or late-check-ins because the reception may be closed during the night. Aparthotels and Guest houses: Please note that these are independent establishments with individual policies and might have very different check-in procedures than hotels. In most cases, these establishments don’t have a reception desk and request the guests to pick up the room keys from a different location. Sometimes customers are asked to call the property and establish the check-in procedures depending on the arrival time of the guest. Also, apartments and guest houses may ask for a deposit as a guarantee, which will be reimbursed to the customer in case of no room damage or retained in case of damage.

Different types of hotel rooms

Hotel rooms may be divided due to the number and type of beds. Single room (SGL) – a room for one guest, with a single bed. Depending on the standard of the hotel, the living area may vary from 8 to 14 sqm. Twin for sole use – a room for one person, with two beds.  Twin room – a room for 2 people. A characteristic feature is that it has two single beds. The term “twin” will also be used for multi-person rooms, in which there is a larger, even number of single beds. Double room (DBL) – also a two-person room, but with one double so-called king-size bed. In the USA the rooms often have two large double beds. Triple – a room for three guests, usually with three single beds. Quad – a room for four people. Dormitory rooms – a type of room with many beds (often bunk beds), rented for different guests. These kinds of rooms can be usually found in the hostels and are much cheaper than regular ones.

Types of breakfast

In different hotels around the world you can find various kinds of breakfast. It's worth checking the breakfast offer during the booking process. We present basic types of breakfasts in hotels. English breakfast The breakfast usually consists of fried eggs, beans, mushrooms, small sausages and grilled tomato. Additionally, toast, coffee or tea and juice. American breakfast The breakfast usually consists of two eggs, bacon, small sausages, pancake and maple sauce. Additionally, toast, coffee or tea and juice. Optional cereal with milk. Continental breakfast The breakfast usually consists of toast, jam, coffee or tea and juice. In the extended version, you can also find hot dishes - scrambled eggs, sausages, milk soups. Viennese breakfast The breakfast usually consists of soft-boiled eggs in a glass, rolls, a plate of meat, jam or honey, and coffee with cream or tea, juice or water.   In hotels you can also find buffets full of different types of products, such as hot dishes and fruits, which you can use to compose your own breakfast.  

What do hotel stars mean?

The number of stars indicates the standard and amenities that you can expect in a hotel. The more stars there are, the more luxurious the conditions are. However, there is no international document regulating the requirements that must be met in the facility to receive a certain number of stars. There are separate rules and scales in each country. In addition, there are also areas where such a classification is not applicable at all (for e.g. Scandinavia) or is voluntary (for e.g. England, France). Therefore, these markings should be treated with distance. When selecting a hotel make sure to check what services are included in the price.
