Shannon Airport is located about 25 km northwest of Limerick and about 25 km south of Ennis. It has one terminal. Shannon International Airport as one of the two European airports has on its premises a post to check-in passengers flying to the US, through which it is possible to settle all formalities before the flight, saving passengers time on the arrival in the US. In 2006, the airport received two prestigious awards. The first one was awarded by the Airports Council International (ACI) for the best airport in Europe in the category of 1-5 million passengers. Another award is for the best Irish airport, awarded by Airports Council International (ACI). There are 6 hotels near the airport.
