Algeria
Algeria, the largest country in Africa, lies in the north of the continent on the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital is Algiers, with 1.6 million inhabitants. Deserts and the semi-deserts of the Sahara dominate the country. Algerian history reaches back to Phoenician times, followed by Roman and Arab rule. The official language is Arabic and the currency is the Algerian dinar. With a Mediterranean climate in the north and a desert climate in the south, the best times to visit are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).
