Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is the second largest country in the Caribbean, occupying most of the island of Hispaniola. The capital is Santo Domingo, and other important cities include Santiago de los Caballeros and La Romana. The country is marked by mountains, crowned by Pico Duarte (3098 m above sea level), and by the salt lake of Enriquillo. The Dominican Republic experiences tropical cyclones, which strike roughly every two years. The climate is tropical, and the best time to visit is from December to April, when it is dry and pleasantly warm.
