Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic, officially the Dominican Republic, is the second-largest country in the Caribbean, occupying most of the island of Hispaniola. Its capital is Santo Domingo, while other major cities include Santiago de los Caballeros and La Romana. The country is defined by its mountainous landscapes, featuring Pico Duarte—the highest peak in the Caribbean at 3,098 meters—as well as the striking saltwater Lake Enriquillo. The Dominican Republic is occasionally affected by tropical cyclones, which typically occur every two years. The climate is tropical, with the most pleasant time to visit between December and April, when the weather is dry and comfortably warm.
