Guatemala
Guatemala, in Central America, borders Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. It has access to both the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean, with 400 km of coastline. The country is inhabited mainly by Mestizos and whites (59.4%), but also by numerous Mayan groups. Catholicism and Protestantism dominate, though traditional Mayan beliefs remain very much alive. It is worth visiting in the dry season, from November to April, when temperatures range from 20 to 30°C. Attractions include the Tajumulco volcano and Lake Izabal.
