Taipei
Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, lies in the north of the island and forms, together with New Taipei and Taoyuan, a conurbation of around 9 million inhabitants. Set in a basin, the city is flanked by the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which merge into the Danshui. Taipei has a rich history going back to 1708, with periods under Chinese and Japanese rule. Known for modern structures such as Taipei 101, the city attracts visitors with its subtropical climate. The best time to visit is winter, when temperatures are milder and rainfall lower.
