Gran Canaria International Airport is one of the biggest airports in Spain and the fifth in the country in terms of passenger traffic. The airport is located on the Gran Canaria island, second most tourist-attracting Canary island. It is located 18 kilometres south of its capital city Las Palmas. The airport was built after the First World War. The first passenger flight was made in 1933, and in 1935 the airport connected Madrid for the first time. It has two terminals and two airstrips. It is operated by several dozen regular, cheap and charter airlines, annually generating passenger traffic of over 10,6 million passengers.
Few hotels can be found in the distance of 5 kilometres from the airport. The booking of these and other hotels can be made at the reservation desks in the arrivals hall.

By bus
Many bus lines are connecting the airport with many locations on the island.
Line 1 connects the airport with Las Palmas and touristic district Puerto de Mogan. From the airport to Las Palmas buses run from Monday to Friday, 5:25 – 23:30, and on Saturday and Sunday, 5:30 – 23:20. From the airport to Puerto de Mogan buses fun from 5:00 to 23:30. The bus runs every 20 minutes.

Line 11 connects the airport with Las Palmas and the city of Aguimes. From the airport to Las Palmas the bus runs from Monday to Friday, 5:30 – 22:00, on Saturday and Sunday 6:00 – 22:00. From the airport to Aguimes it runs from Monday to Friday, 5:50 to 21:20, on Saturday and holidays from 5:50 to 21:50.

Line 36 connects the airport with the tourist areas of Maspalomas and Telde. It runs from 5:40 to 18:40 to Fare de Maspalomas, and from 7:40 to 20:40 to Telde. The bus runs once per hour.

Line 5 connects the airport with Las Palomas and tourist district of Maspalomas. On the route Las Palmas – airport – Faro it runs at 0:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 5:20, 21:00, 22:00, 23:00. It goes the way back at 0:35, 1:35, 2:35, 3:35, 4:35, 21:35, 23:35.

Line 60 connects the airport with Las Palmas. From Las Palmas to the airport it runs at 5:45, from 6:00 to 8:00 it runs every 30 minutes, two last ones are at 21:40 and 22:40. From the airport to Las Palmas it runs from 6:00 to 20:15 every 30 minutes, the last ones run at 21:15, 22:15 and 23:15.

Line 66 connects the airport with Maspalomas tourist area. From the airport to Faro de Maspalomas the bus runs from 7:20 to 20:20, it runs the return way from 6:20 to 19:00, once an hour.

Line 91 connects the airport with Las Palmas and the Playa del Cura resort. From the airport to Las Palms the bus runs from Monday to Friday, 6:30 – 20:35, and on Saturday and Sunday from 7:35 to 20:35. From the airport to Playa del Cura the bus runs once per hour from 6:15 to 20:15.

By taxi
The taxi stand is located next to the exit of the baggage reclaim arrival hall. The taxi fee depends on the tariff. The day tariff applies in the period between 6:00 and 23:00 and the 1-kilometre rate is 0,55EUR, with the minimum charge of 3,15EUR. The night tariff applies between 22:00 and 6:00, the 1-kilometre rate is 0,63EUR, with the minimum charge of 3,45EUR. These are the approximate rates.
By car
You can reach the airport from the southern part of the island and the capital city by the GC-1 from the highway.

The fees are about 0,019EUR per minute (30 to 60 minutes stay), plus the additional fee of 0,02EUR for every extra minute (from the 61st minute of stay). Leaving the car for four days costs about 10,60EUR, the fifth day costs 8,50EUR. You can pay it by card next to the C entrance. There are the approximate rates.

Disabled passengers – the airport is accessible to disabled passengers (handrails, sound signals for the blind, telephones adapted for the visually impaired)
Restaurants – at the airport there are many numerous bars and cafés available.
Finance – at the terminal you can find currency exchange, bank, and ATMs.
Shopping – there are many duty-free shops at the airport, you can buy there some jewellery, gifts, toys, leather accessories. There is also a mini supermarket.
Car rental – there are seven car rental operators at the airport: Top Car, Premium Car, Gold Car, Avis, Hertz, Cicar, and Europcar. You can find their desks on the ground floor in the area between international arrivals hall and the EU arrivals hall.
Internet – Wireless Internet access is available at the airport, free of charge.
Other – the airport has business facilities and conference rooms. The airport doesn't have a hotel, but in the close vicinity, there is a Vecindario Aeropuerto Gran Hotel with conference rooms for companies, with the internet access for business travellers.
