Madrid-Barajas International Airport is the largest airport in Spain. It was opened in 1931. The airport changed its name from Madrid-Barajas to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas on 23 March 2014, in honor of the Prime Minister of the country who had died three days earlier. Madrid airport is strategically located at the heart of the country and is located 13 km northeast of the center of the capital. This large and modern airport is not only the most important airport in the country, but also one of the most important hub airports in Europe. It is served by over 80 airlines. These carriers here have their bases there: Iberia, Air Europa, Air Nostrum, Vueling Airlines, easyJet, Ryanair, Wamos Air, Swiftair.
In 2015, the airport served over 46.8 million passengers.

Madrid airport is connected to the city and the region by many bus lines.
City buses
Line 203 Express Line: Atocha Renfe (city center) - Airport - travel time in normal road conditions takes 40 min. The bus runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a frequency of 15-20 minutes during the day and 35 minutes during the night. A one-way ticket costs 5 EUR, luggage transport is free. A ticket for cash is available on the bus.
Line 200: Avenida de America – Airport. A one-way ticket costs 1,50 EUR and can only be bought on the board of the bus. The bus runs every day from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every 12-15 minutes at rush hour.
Line 101: Canillejas- Barajas Airport. A one-way ticket costs EUR 1.50 and can only be bought on the board of the bus. The bus runs from Canillejas from Monday to Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. From the airport it runs from Monday to Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 11:25 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:25 p.m.
The bus runs with a frequency of 13-16 minutes at rush hour.

It runs between Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Terminal 4.
Metro
The airport in Madrid is connected to the city center from the early morning hours to late night hours by metro line 8. Estimated travel time is 12-15 minutes. The subway at the airport of the Spanish capital has two stations.
Railway
Line C-1 – it connects the T4 terminal station with the center of Madrid. Frequency: 30 minutes.

Round-trip ticket (it may be the next day): 5.2 EUR.
There are appropriately marked taxi ranks in front of all four airport terminals. The indicative travel time between the airport and the center of Madrid is about 20-30 minutes. Taxis serving the airport are white, with a red diagonal stripe on the front door.
It takes about 30 minutes by car from Madrid Airport to the center of Madrid. The highway connects the airport with the main road leading to the city and with the ring road.
The best solution is to choose the N2 Madrid - Barcelona road, then the N100 road that leads directly to the airport. The traveling time between the airport and the center of Madrid is about 25-30 minutes.
