Murcia
Murcia, the capital of the region of the same name, lies in south-eastern Spain on the river Segura. Known as the Orchard of Europe, it takes pride in its Baroque cathedral of Santa Maria with its 92 m tower. Founded in 825, the city was the capital of an independent state until 1243. Its semi-arid climate brings mild winters and hot summers with little rainfall. Murcia has more than 643 thousand inhabitants. Citrus fruit and vines flourish here. It is best visited in spring or autumn, when temperatures are more pleasant.
