Ethiopia
Ethiopia, in the Horn of Africa, is a country full of geographical contrasts. The Abyssinian Highlands and the Somali Plateau create a varied landscape, cut through by the Great Rift Valley. With a population of more than 120 million, Ethiopia is one of the most densely populated countries in Africa. Amharic is the official language, but many local dialects are spoken as well. Ethiopian history reaches back to the ancient Kingdom of Aksum. The best time to visit is from October to March, when the weather is mild and dry.
