Lisbon
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, lies in the western part of the Iberian Peninsula on the river Tagus, at its mouth on the Atlantic Ocean. The city is home to more than 500 thousand people, while the whole metropolitan area has around 2.8 million inhabitants. Lisbon is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country. Here you will find UNESCO sites such as the Jerónimos Monastery and the Torre de Belém. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, the best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild and pleasant.
