Quito
Quito, the capital of Ecuador, lies in the Andes at 2700-2850 m above sea level, which makes it the second highest capital city in the world. Set around 40 km south of the equator, Quito is ringed by majestic volcanoes, including the active Pichincha. The city is famous for its well-preserved colonial architecture, and its old town was added to the UNESCO list in 1978. Quito has a temperate climate, with temperatures between 10 and 20°C all year round. The best time to visit is the dry season from June to September.
