    The city’s name refers Prudente José de Moraes e Barros, the president of Brazil and the first governor of São Paulo state in years 1889-1890.

What’s worth seeing in Presidente Prudente?

Till the time of arrival of miners in the second half of the 19th century the area was inhabited by a few Indian tribes, among them Caio, Xavantes i Caingangues. Officially the city was founded in 1917.

After the economic crisis and fell of prices of coffee, which majority families in the area were living off,  in the 30’s of the 20th century they switched to manufacturing cotton. Possibility of cultivation drag to the city foreign companies, that gave jobs to citizens. With time also nuts were started to be produced there.

Since three decades, with breaks, in August has been taking place Presidente Prudente National Theatre Festival. This is the opportunity to see in one place plays of the best theatre groups in the country. Classical plays are accompanied by plays for kids, street plays and those closer to alternative art.

If, just like the city’s citizens, you are a fan of cuisine and culture of Japan, make sure to visit Presidente Prudente in June. Each year the Sushi Fest happens in that time – the biggest event of that kind in the whole region. A several dozen of people take part in it. What can you do there? Taste the best traditional dishes, you will get to know better the culture, art and traditions of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Where residents of Presidente Prudente rest? They most eagerly visit Parque do Povo to rest on the green areas. It is a huge park in the valley between Avenida Manoel Goulart and Avenida Brasil. You can do there literally everything, that you fancy doing in the open air – there are running paths, football pitch, playgrounds and snack bars. You will also find there a pool, and even…a skating rink!

When you get hungry, make sure to visit Fulo de Mandacaru Bistro at Avenida Washington Luiz 1030. They served there splendid Brazilian cuisine with a tiny modern smidge. Great, fried fishes and meats are served mostly with rice. Definitely you have to try one of the delicious desserts.
