Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina, set in the east of the USA. Together with Cary it forms a metropolitan area home to 1.5 million people. It is known as the City of Oaks thanks to the trees growing in its centre. The electronics, textile, food and chemical industries all thrive here. Raleigh itself is home to 474.7 thousand people, predominantly white and African American. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are pleasant.
