Venice
Venice, the capital of the Veneto region, lies in northern Italy on the Adriatic. The city has around 255 thousand inhabitants, most of whom live on the mainland, while about 50 thousand people live in the historic centre. Venice, once the powerful Venetian Republic, draws visitors with monuments from the 13th to the 16th century. Its distinctive canals, bridges and architecture make the city a jewel of world heritage. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild.
