Rotterdam
Rotterdam, in the western Netherlands on the Nieuwe Maas, is a dynamic city in the delta of the Rhine and the Meuse. As a major transport hub it has an extensive network of motorways and railways as well as an airport. The city boasts the largest port in Europe, which provides excellent access to the continent's interior. Though it was destroyed during the Second World War, it impresses with its modern architecture and landmarks such as the Gothic Church of St Lawrence. The best time to visit is spring or summer, when temperatures are pleasant.
