Aer Lingus
Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland. It is based at Dublin Airport.
The first flight of the company took off from Baldonnel Airfield in Dublin to Bristol Whitchurch Airport on May 27, 1936.
The name “Aer Lingus” is derived from the Gaelic term “aer loingeas” which means “air fleet.”
The airline’s current fleet consists of 47 modern Airbus aircraft carrying over 10.6 million passengers each year.
Between 2013 and 2015, part of the Aer Lingus fleet was operating domestic routes within Great Britain – from London Heathrow to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Manchester, under a wet-lease agreement with Virgin Atlantic. However, Aer Lingus provides flights mostly to the European locations, including Turkey, as well as to North America and North Africa.
Aer Lingus is the longest running airline in Ireland and the country’s second-largest carrier after Ryanair. The company’s main objective is to connect Ireland with the whole world and offer customers the best services at competitive prices.
The Irish carrier also has a cargo division providing freight transport within the UK, continental Europe, and the USA. Thanks to interline agreements with other companies (Stobart Air, Jetblue Airways, United Airlines), it offers many connections to Great Britain, the United States, and Canada.
