    Bergen
Bergen, located in the Vestland district at the confluence of the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea, is Norway's second-largest city with about 289,330 residents. Known as the gateway to the fjords, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Founded in 1070 by Olaf III, it was once the capital of Norway and an important Hanseatic port. Today, it remains a key fishing and trading port. Bergen offers a rich transportation system, including the Fløibanen and Ulriksbanen funiculars. The best time to visit is summer, when temperatures are pleasant and moderate.
